Stewardship, an ancient concept for the wise and prudent use another's resources was the founding vision for Resource Appraisal and Management - a consultancy dedicated to stewardship of both natural and human resources. This vision coupled with drive and innovation gave rise to proprietary processes for converting non-hazardous industry waste streams into effective, environmentally responsible products. Commercialization of this technology gave birth to RAM Chemicals Company which was soon renamed RAM Biochemicals, Incorporated to more accurately reflect the nature and character of our company and products. RAM's first commercial product was B-19™ Plant Growth Enhancer, and it remains our founder's sentimental favorite.
During our formative years (1986 & 1987), RAM forged strategic alliances with LSB Products / Alteca for toll manufacturing support, and the Adolph Coors Company and Anheuser-Bush, Inc. to obtain non-hazardous waste materials from their brewing operations. These materials were processed through RAM's industrial microbial process and converted into Wel-Prep 5™ Oil Recovery Fluid and B-19™ Plant Growth Enhancer. Concurrent with the development of these products, RAM established close working relationships with key researchers at NIPER, Bartlesville, OK and INEL as well as private individuals and companies working in the area or microbial EOR and bioremediation. These relationships played a significant role in the further development and improvement of Wel-Prep 5™ Oil Recovery Fluid.
With the advent of full-scale manufacturing capabilities for Wel-Prep, RAM conceived and implemented a successful program to sell its unique microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery product as an installed service through structured licensing agreements with oil field service companies and producers in Texas, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

During the late 1980's and into mid-1990's there was a protracted period of low oil prices which made it impossible for RAM to remain profitable. The Directors reluctantly took the company dormant in 1996. RAM came out of dormancy in 2007, and in 2008 we responded to an RFP from the Department of Energy/Stripper Well Consortium. RAM's proposal: "Validation of incremental oil production via single well and reservoir field trials involving in situ stimulation of indigenous microorganisms" was designed to assist U.S. marginal oil producers produce more oil and lower operating costs. Grant funding was awarded in August, 2008. The original performance period which was to have ended on 31 July, 2009 was extended to 31 December, 2009. Validation field projects have been underway in Kansas since Octobder, 2008. RAM presented an Interim Report to the SWC on 15 December, 2009 at their winter meeting held in State College, PA, and a final report will be presented at the SWC's spring 2010 meeting. Projects in other oil producing states are currently being reviewed and assessed for possible application of RAM's microbial EOR technology.
